Family Day on this Feb. is also the Valentine's Day and the day of Chinese Lantern festival. It's a perfect time that accompany your family going to Quebec Winter Carnival and Skiing at Mont-Tremblant.
The Quebec Winter Carnival Festival is a festival held in Quebec City. The festival's events include a winter amusement park, with attractions such as skiing, snow rafting, ice sculptures, snow sled slides and outdoor shows and it is usually held in February. In 2015, the carnival ran from February 1 to February 15.
It is a tradition to feast for a week or two up until Mardi gras ("Fat Tuesday", or Shrove Tuesday) before the 40 day long fasting observance of Lent begins.
After being held on and off for over half a century, the Quebec City Carnival has been held uninterruptedly since 1955. That year, a large ice palace was built for Bonhomme, the carnival mascot, for the first time. The impressive ice construction in Jacques Cartier Square even had a dungeon, used to playfully jail carnival-goers who refused to honour Bonhomme's effigy. In 1973, Bonhomme's palace was moved to be opposite Quebec's National Assembly, at the foot of the upper city fortification wall near the entrance of the main carnival site on the Plains of Abraham.
Popular Events: Ice Canoe Races and Parades
The Canoe Race, a legendary competition, has been held since the Carnival’s first edition. Each year, several courageous teams compete with one another during a tumultuous ride along the St. Lawrence River between Québec City and Lévis.The race is divided into two parts, the preliminaries and the final, on the St. Lawrence River. The Elite masculine class, the Elite Feminine Class and the Sport Class are the three categories included in the program. The men in the competition class go twice around the circuit between Québec City and Lévis;
The most famous attractions of this winter festival are the night-time and daytime parades led by mascot Bonhomme Carnaval. The parades wind through the upper city, decorated for the occasion with lights and ice sculptures.

Canivel Traditions:
Bonhomme’s Arrow Sash
The red outfits, the arrowhead sash, tests of strength and skill, Bonhomme’s image, and even a sip of ‘caribou’ are traditions that go all the way back to the origins of the Québec Winter Carnival, some even further back.
The arrowhead sash, inspired by the Amerindian culture, has remained a symbol in Quebecois society thanks to the Québec Carnival. In the 19th century, this belt was used to tie jackets at the waist to prevent the cold from creeping in. It also supported the kidneys in moments of physical effort. It was both a practical and fashionable accessory, worn by both the bourgeois and the peasants. The belt and the red hat, linked directly to Québec folklore, are today considered the primary elements of Bonhomme’s outfit.
Trumpets
The best way to warm is moving and dancing, and to put you in the mood, nothing works better than the long red trumpets carnival-goers toot all along the parade circuits. So dress in something red, tie your belt on and hold on to your hat, because in Québec City, the tradition is to party like crazy!
